Home of the Deepest Blue Hole in the World!

Long Island is the start of the out islands in Bahamas and has many small villages to explore. We anchored in Clarence town across from the most beautiful beach we ever been too!

The town of Clarence town was unfortunately ravished by hurricane Joaquin back in 2015 but some buildings survived the storm. Two of them are churches on the hill that we visited. There was also a bar called Rowdy boys in town that we heard tasty food and drinks so we decided to have lunch there. It turned out to have a beautiful vista overlooking the ocean!

We needed a few groceries before heading further into the out islands but found out the closest stores were over 5miles away which in the heat would be difficult for Bella! So we hitchhiked all the way there from various Bahamians who were kind enough to give us a ride! It’s sometime a mission to get groceries but usually it always becomes an interesting experience as you get to know the locals in small communities.

While on Long Island, we had to Visit the famous blue hole which is the deepest in the world at 624 feet. Bella, Steve and I all swam across it was was kinda creepy! It actually drops quite quick and you can just see a dark hole under water with your snorkel gear.

This hole is also used for free diving competitions each year which we learned that the record was 150meters held by a man diving on a single breath!

Next stop... Great Inauga island which will take us 2 days to get there!
