The sail from Aruba to Columbia is known as one of the worst passages as the winds are known to regularly reach 40+ knots and the sea can get up to 15ft! This is why it’s crucial to pick a good weather window. Our sail overall was relatively and luckily uneventful. We experienced some bigger seas and higher winds towards to end but you kinda adjust after a while. Along the way we saw a pack of 20-25 dolphins swimming and jumping along our boat! You never tire of seeing this in the wild...
Once safely anchored and rested in Cabo de la Vella, we decided to explore this remote and unique village. As soon as we were approaching shore on the dingy, we were warmly welcomed by a Colombian family signalling is to pull up the dingy. We bought some handmade bracelets off the children and continued on to explore the beach while promising to return for lunch.
The town was really unique full of thrashed roof houses and restaurants along the beach. The people were all warm and welcoming and as usual Bella made friends fast with the kids. We watched some talented locals windsurf as they soared +30ft into the air doing flips and tricks through the wind.
We enjoyed a delicious lunch made fresh by our new friends of the beach!
After a few days of waiting out some stronger wind we decided to continued our journey destined for the 5bays in the national reserve to take in some beautiful scenery and nature.
